Setanta Speckled House Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

2012 was an awesome riesling vintage in South Australia, especially in Adelaide Hills and Eden Valley. The nose on this wine is quite delicate, with smells of lemon and orange citrus and honeysuckle florals, but the palate is richer than expected, with rich orange marmalade and poached quince, bright, zesty acidity, and a long, sauntering finish. prawn vol-au-vents would be great with this!

Winemaker's Notes

Hand picking in the cool of the early morning, and gentle pressing minimized skin contact with the free run juice. The juice was then naturally cold settled, racked, and inoculated with yeast of French origin to initiate alcoholic fermentation. Fermentation temperature 10°C - 18°C. The wine was then filtered for bottling.

The elegance of this Riesling is a classic example of the cool climate appellation. Floral lifted bouquet with lemon lime, citrus aromas follow through to a zesty fruit driven palate with a crisp acid finish. A fine example of a great classic variety.

Very good fruit on the nose, although slightly closed at the moment. Racy, citrusy palate that's very flavoursome and has plenty of length.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Light- to medium-bodied; clean, good balance, with gentle lime/lemon/citrus flavours; going into the transition phase between youth and maturity.

Light straw-green; a fragrant and flowery apple blossom and mineral bouquet flows into a delicate but quite intense palate; apple and a touch of lime run through to the well-balanced, long finish. 150 cases made.
