James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Earthy blackberry fruit; touches of bottle-developed cedar; rich and round; good tannins.

Jeremy Oliver (2001 Vintage) says
An elegant and fine-grained cool climate cabernet whose lightly herbal and minty aromas of cassis, plums and raspberries reveal nuances of capsicum and forest floor. Long smooth and juicy its like supple palate delivers lively and minty small berry fruit backed by fine-grained cedary oak and framed by tight-knit tannins.

James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; some savoury, cedary notes along with spice on the bouquet; the palate has blackberry, currant and cedar, and is quite long, with firm acidity. Nonetheless, like the Shiraz, somewhat dull (by the normal standards of Shantell) and one cannot help but question whether there might be a low level of bacterial activity (brett).

Jeremy Oliver (2000 Vintage) says
Restrained aromas of mulberries, plums and cassis show through some cedary, pencil-shavings oak and hints of bell pepper. Fine, long and smooth, its polished palate offers a pleasing length of fruit tightly knit with fine, firm tannins, finishing a little drying with herbal influences.

James Halliday (1995 Vintage) says
Strong, bright red-purple; the bouquet is ripe, with attractive cassis fruit to the fore. The palate shows similarly ripe berry flavours, with a hint of mint, sweet tannins and a flick of oak.

James Halliday (1993 Vintage) says
Medium to full purple-red; an attractive mix of cassis, earth and leaf, with a touch of vanilla oak and a degree of lift. A high-toned, high-flavoured and striking wine on the palate with a mix of berry, cassis and mint flavours, and no green characters. Once again there is a degree of lift, the wine finishing with fine tannins.
