Cracka Review

Murrumbateman is the new black, or its least some of its wines are now viewed amongst Australian wine’s highest echelons. And for good reason too as the reds have real character and personality with the kind of perfume that only comes from slightly cooler regions. This Cabernet Merlot blend shows the best of the two varieties – pretty blackcurrant fruit with power and grace. Proper Australian Cabernet and at a price built to please.

Winemaker's Notes

Dark plum colour as a result of long cool ripening period. A nose of spice and herbs with rich berry and slight oak, followed with a palate of blackberry and spice. Well balanced oak of good length and finish.

Shaw Vineyard Awards & Accolades

"The just-released 2008 Winemakers Selection Cabernet Merlot is particularly interesting because Graeme Shaw excels when it comes to Cabernet – in fact, he believes it’s the best fruit in his cool-climate vineyard – and this Cabernet Merlot blend was made in a year in which those Cabernets really stood out." It’s a wine of dominant blackberry and spice flavours with balanced oak; and great to enjoy with well-sauced pastas or strong cheeses." - David Ellis, May 2011

Peter Forrestal (2008 Vintage) says

This entry-level cab merlot from Canberra is fragrantly floral, has ripe yet restrained dark plum and blackcurrant jube flavours, good weight and mouthfeel, and power before a plush, slightly firm finish.
