Shaw Vineyard Winemaker's Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Every once in a while, when Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon just seem a bit too big for the moment, I often get a hankering for a proper Merlot and this is a good one. Ripe blackberry fruit, a little herbal in a good way with punchy fruit, little bit of oak and soft, silky tannins. They sometimes call Merlot Cabernet without the pain and this wine is certainly built to please.

Winemaker's Notes

Dark ruby colour, intense varietal aromas of spicy berries, displaying a soft and rounded palate of ripe plum aromas and lush blackcurrant up front fruit with a lingering finish.

"Medium-deep garnet colored, the 2008 Winemakers Selection Merlot has a good amount of warm plum and cherry preserve intensity on the nose with a hint of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, it has high acidity, low to medium chewy tannins and just enough berry flavored flesh, finishing medium-long. Drink it now to 2014.- Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2011
