Simon Hackett McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Simon Hackett has been turning out decent wines from McLaren Vale since 1981, and this 2008 version is a lush beasty! There's lots of sweet fruit in the glass of dark cherries and blackcurrants, along with a whiff of toasted coconut. The palate is fullsome and succulent, with ripe berry flavours, mellow tannins, and a bit of grip on the juicy finish. Red meat is the go with this one!

Winemaker's Notes

Medium bodied red with intense purple red colour. The nose has a top note of lifted confectionary sweetness. Fresh cherry, ripening strawberry with cassis backing. The palate is smooth and rich, it has good balance throughout with soft accessible tannins lightly dusting the sweet ripe blackberry dominated mid-palate. The American oak sits comfortably towards the back palate.

Those '03 fruit characters surrounded by swathes of regional dark chocolate, which do help the wine, though not necessarily the varietal character.
