Sirromet Signature Collection Shiraz Viognier

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Sirromet step it up with this more medium-bodied shiraz viognier blend out of Queensland. Aromas of dark fruits, poached apricots and sweet, earthy spices lift from the glass, whilst the palate is quite fruity and elegant, with a ball of dark cherries in the centre of the mouth, a bit of grip to the tannins, and a smooth-ish with a kick of toasted cedar in the tail. This calls for some roast meats for company.

Winemaker's Notes

2013 was a good year for Shiraz, along with small hand-selected parcels of Viognier to create a regional blend that works well in our Granite Belt vineyards. We used a cold soak method on the Shiraz with 7% Viognier juice added to the crushed red fruit pre-fermentation. Cool fermented with both wild and cultured yeasts, then aged in oak barriques for 13 months.

Appearance: Rich ruby red, with violet tones.

Nose: A young, elegant Shiraz Viognier blend showing red currants, cinnamon, forest floor fruits, touch of floral spice, and soft vanillin oak.

Palate: Sourced from Blocks 3 and 26 from Severn Scenes Vineyard, this is a distinctive Granite Belt cool climate Shiraz style; very delicate, lovely Shiraz essence with intense cherries and plum, and lovely hints of apricots from the Viognier. Firm tannins, good intensity and well balanced supporting oak.

Food: Enjoy with rack of lamb, rosemary roast potatoes and mint jus.

Alcohol: 13.5%
