Skillogalee Clare Valley Rose

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Skillogalee family has been making superb wines in the Clare valley since the 70s and here they turn their hand at Rosé with a blend of Cabernet and Malbec. You’ll notice that winemakers have started making Rosés with much more care and attention in recent times and the results are wines like this. It’s bursting with vivid summer fruits like raspberry and cranberry and held together by refreshing natural acids plus a touch of drying tannin. Serve chilled with your favourite cuisine and you’ll become a participant in the pink revolution that’s sweeping the nation.

Winemaker's Notes

This 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Malbec (49%) Rosé was made from 100% dry grown Clare Valley fruit. Hand selected ripe fruit, harvested specifically for this wine, has resulted in a stylish wine with intense fruit character and varietal expression.

The wine shows fresh Morello cherries and red currants on the nose, with undertones of lavender and musk. The palate is fresh and lively with strawberry and boysenberry flavours and some creamy textural notes adding to the complexity of the wine. The finish is both lingering and crisp.

This wine is best served chilled, especially during the warmer months and is a great match for many food styles, particularly duck and light meats, fresh seafood and contemporary Asian cuisine.

Tyson Stelzer (2011 Vintage) says
The Clare's classic blend of cabernet malbec makes for a crunchy and spicy rose with flavours of redcurrants, cranberries and pink pepper. Give it a hefty chill to tone its sweetness.
