Songlines Estates Bylines McLaren Vale Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Looking for hearty McLaren Vale Shiraz with a polish? Look no further! This is rich but savoury, built long and firm with sweet berry flavours, coffee oak and drying tannins. It's a biggun', but with the depth to match.

Winemaker's Notes

More forward than its big brother Songlines, Bylines has a jolly generosity and ripe deep set inky colour. The fruit is juicy with exotic Shiraz aromas showing pure tree fruits of opulent ripe dark cherry, ripe plum and sweet ripe fruits. A full rich palate follow, soft acidity with blackberry and mocha and balanced cedary oak. The juicy, dark, rounded tannins have volume and flesh.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Powerful full-bodied shiraz with regional character running through the length of the palate, where black fruits, dark chocolate, oak and tannins coalesce.

Rob Geddes MW (2007 Vintage) says
This wine has a solid core of ripe fruit and carries credible tannins for the long haul. The fruit flavours have concentrated blackberry with dark chocolate in the background while the palate has old vine concentration and tannin structure supported by sweet oak with great complexity and length. A wine you can eat in its youth.

Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
A rich, generous shiraz whose very concentrated presence of berries and plums also reveals some vegetal and overtly raisined influences suggestive of slightly stressed, under and over-ripened fruit. Backed by vanilla/chocolate oak, its smooth, velvet-like and meaty palate does deliver genuine ripeness and juiciness, finishing with notes of licorice and treacle.

Classic McLaren Vale blackberry and dark chocolate driving all else before them (and there is plenty); alcohol is not the issue one might expect, and the oak is good.
