Expert Reviews

Ray Jordan (2010 Vintage) says
Beautifully balanced and poised blended red. The plummy blackberry flavours are worked with some light cedary oak. The palate is lush and generously soft with fine tannins and subtle oak. IT stacks up well for current drinking with a little time in the cellar to bring out some other qualities.

What you see is what you get: a medium-bodied display of blackcurrant, redcurrant and plum fruit, a substrate of tannins and a modicum of oak — pure Margaret River.

This is just such a friendly enjoyable wine. You'll want to keep on keeping on until the last drop is moderation of course. Exotic spicy perfumed scents on the nose of red berry and minty violet overtones. The palate is supple and deliciously fruity with a little cedary oak for complexity. Fine silky tannins complete a very good wine.

An intense and focused bouquet of blackcurrant and redcurrant is faithfully reflected in the palate, which has very good texture and balance.

Higher Plane is a southerly vineyard recently acquired by the owners of Juniper Estate, whose property is in the northern end of the region. Cooler berries and almost peppery nuances on the palate, leaves and herbs, fine tannin finish - a good result for the chilly '06 vintage.

Medium-bodied, elegant wine showing some cool fruit influence of mint and red currant. Very much a wine that lets the fruit play the dominant role with understated minimal oak use.

Developed and jammy nose with nice earthy/mushroomy notes. Massive bold fruit flavours with lively acid and good oak.

Higher Plane is a respected wine name that has recently been taken over by Juniper Estate. The highly regarded Mark Messenger makes the wines. 2004 RELEASE Ripper red wine. Lovely mix of savoury, earthy flavours and ripe, strong, blackcurrant, its toasty oak tucked into a very attractive package. Medium-weight, and decidedly delicious, DRINK 2008-2012.

James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the clean, moderately intense bouquet offers fresh red and black fruit aromas; nicely judged oak in the background. The palate is no less clean and harmonious, with soft, gently sweet raspberry and blackcurrant fruit flavours, finishing with fine tannins.
