Spencer Hill Estate Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (1995 Vintage) says
Full yellow, almost into orange; an intriguing bouquet with cinnamon/clove/spice oak woven through rich fruit; the palate is more conventional, with nicely balanced and controlled oak, a smooth texture, and fresh acidity on the finish.

Michael Cooper (1995 Vintage) says
Launched from the 1995 vintage, this is the top label from the Spencer Hill winery In Upper Moutere, best known for its Tasman Bay Chardonnay. Grown at the Brentwood vineyard in Marlborough, barrel-fermented with natural yeasts and matured for 11 months in French and American oak barriques, the '95 is a beautifully crafted wine, forward in its appeal, with impressive weight and depth of citrusy, nutty flavours in a heavily "malo"-influenced style with strong butterscotch-like characters. Complex, harmonious, persistent and extremely drinkable.
