Spier Savanha Sun Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here we have a well-priced, fuller style of cab sav that would be a hit at your next BBQ. Dark fruits, crushed leaves and toasted cedar rise from the glass, whilst the palate is plummy and a tad spicy, with licks of star anise and toasty oak, gentle tannins, and subtle earthy finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Vineyard: Trellised vines and bush vines aged 10-20 years yielded the grapes for this wine. The vineyards received supplementary drip irrigation and produced 11-15 tons per hectare.

Winemaking: The grapes were hand and machine harvested at optimum ripeness, selected, de-stemmed and gently crushed. Cold maceration took place at 10-12ºC prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Daily pump overs were conducted for optimum extraction of colour and flavour. Wines from selected tanks were blended and fined, and matured for 6 months before bottling.

Appearance: Deep-red in colour.

Nose: Blackberries and tobacco on the nose.

Palate: Layers of dark berry fruit combined with subtle oak flavours, plums and hints of liquorices, ending off in a reasonably soft palate with a savoury finish.

Food: Sirloin or rump steak, roasted duck with orange sauce, hearty soups and mature cheese.

Alcohol: 14.4%

GI: South Africa: Western Cape, predominantly Breedekloof / Swartland / Coastal regions.
