Spy Valley Envoy Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The envoy has arrived. Normally an envoy is a diplomat with a message, well the message is well and truly clear with this single site Riesling. That is a wine that states clearly where it’s from and that place is the Wairau Valley in Marlborough. It’s lifted in aromas of lime and apple and has some nice minerality, but the palate is where the magic happens with the acid and sweetness balancing on a tightrope with elements of honey and lanolin on the focused finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Pale lemon.

Nose: Typical lifted notes of lemon, limes and crisp apple. Jasmine and flint are in the background.

Palate: Immediately appealing, the first impression of juicy fresh fruit hides the true steely nature of this wine. Structured for extended cellaring, the rewards will come to those who wait.

Cellaring: 5+ years

Spy Valley Envoy Riesling

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2009 Vintage) says
An impressively balanced medium sweet riesling, with just the right richness and wild honey sweetness for its tart backbone of searingly cool acidity and mineral poise.
Wine100, September Edition
Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
Finely scented, lively wine, still youthful. Light-bodied (8 per cent alc/vol), with good freshness and intensity and a long, gently sweet (69g/litre of residual sugar), mouth-wateringly crisp and racy finish.
Louise Radman (2007 Vintage) says
Sugared lime & river stone minerality wrapped in jasmine & acacia blossoms. Lovely poise with intense & shining purity from a single vineyard site. 56.2 grams residual sugar balanced by invigorating acidity.
