Staete Landt Estate Grown Syrah

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

You can bet your bottom dollar that a producer who calls his Shiraz Syrah is damn serious about what’s in the bottle. Generally by using the French word Syrah for Shiraz, means it’s made in the old world style. The wine is completely expressive of place thanks to the stony soils that inhabit the vineyard. It shows black fruits and white pepper as well as licorice before a well- balanced and structured palate with elegantly woven tannins.

Winemaker's Notes

This 2009 vintage Staete Landt Syrah expresses the unique terroir of the old stony riverbed site beautifully. The wine has an attractive nose of ripe black cherries and blackberries. On the palate this wine shows white pepper, dark ripe plums and bay leaf/liquorice characters. A well balanced, complex and sophisticated typical cool climate style Syrah, with excellent structure and elegant tannins. This wine is drinking very well now but will repay cellaring for at least three to five years.

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2008 Vintage) says
The 2008 vintage was hand-harvested at Rapaura and matured for 17 months in French oak barriques (40 per cent new). Full-coloured, it is sturdy and firm, with plum and spice flavours, showing a hint of tamarillo, lots of toasty oak, and good concentration and complexity.
