Stags Leap is by far one of the best cab savs to come out of the USA. Ever since the legendary 1973 vintage made from young vines, it has been a shining light and the polar opposite to the usual musclebound, ultra-ripe styles we usually get. There's cassis, dried tobacco, earthy spices and cherries on the nose, whilst the palate is medium to fuller-bodied, with deep, concentrated dark cherry flavours, fine-graned tannins, and a juicy fruit and mocha finish. Lovely stuff that would go down well with some kangaroo fillet.
Stags' Leap, located in the heart of California's wine growing region of the Napa Valley was once the playground of Hollywood celebrities when Stag's Leap was a prestigious country resort. Since 1970, the estate has concentrated on world class vineyards and winemaking and the result is wines the likes of the flavoursome Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet is a Californian stalwart and the variety suits Napa down to the ground. Vivid aromas of red and black fruit greet the nose while the palate shows flavours of cassis, leather, espresso and chocolate. Don't miss this chance to buy some of Napa's great Cabernet here in Australia.
