Starborough Pinot Gris

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This voluptuous pinot gris out of Marlborough is a rich, almost off-dry style that has smells of poached pears and honeysuckle florals on the nose, whilst the palate is rounded from a touch of oak, and has a touch of sweetness upfront before giving way to more pear and ginger spice flavours, friendly acidity, and a smooth, lush finish. it's a curvy Marilyn Munroe style that would be great with Thai dishes, or even a butter chicken.

Winemaker's Notes

A delicious wine made in an off dry style expressing the varietal characters from the Wairau and Awatere valleys. It has a powerfully intense nose of ripe spicy pears, peach and exotic florals. The palate has mouthfilling flavours of spiced pears, honey and floral elements. The wine has a long and sustained finish with soft, rich and honied pear flavours.

WINESTATE (2010 Vintage) says
Fragrant, spirity and sweet nose - very attractive - and terrific sweet, elegant oak palate.

WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Promising blend of Wairau Valley (70%) and Awatere Valley (30%) fruit, partly barrel-fermented. Skilfully crafted, mouthfilling, ripe and rounded, with concentrated peach, pear and spice flavours, slightly oily texture and good harmony.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Lovely wine, although one judge thought it was more like a sauvignon blanc with its sweaty/tropical nose and long, floral palate with balancing residual sugar.
