Stoneleigh Marlborough Pinot Gris

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here's a luscious style of pinot gris out of New Zealand that has a kiss of sweetness to it. Scents of green pears, red apples, guava and honeysuckle florals leap out of the glass, whilst the palate is off-dry with a rich mouthfeel, pear and yellow citrus flavours, and a decent, smooth finish. Excellent with a creamy mushroom fettuccine.

Winemaker's Notes

Nose: This wine displays ripe tropical fruit notes with honeydew melon, pear and honeysuckle laced with subtle spicy notes.

Palate: The palate has intense tropical fruit flavours and a warm richness, with fresh citrus,
and grapefruit acidity on the finish.

Food: Serve slightly chilled on its own or with delicate white meat, pasta or seafood
dishes. This is an excellent aperitif.

Cellaring: This wine is best enjoyed young or could be cellared over the next two years if bottle development characters are desired.  No oak was used on this wine.

WINESTATE (2011 Vintage) says
Winestate Magazine, Mar/Apr 2012
Michael Cooper (2011 Vintage) says
From Pernod Ricard NZ, the 2010 vintage is attractively scented, with strong, fresh, intensely varietal peach, pear and spice flavours and an oily, rounded texture. A slightly sweet style, balanced for easy drinking, it shows good richness. Tasted in its infancy, just after bottling, the 2011 showed very good freshness, purity and depth.
