Stonyridge Pilgrim Syrah Mourvedre Grenache

expert reviews about

Stonyridge Pilgrim Syrah Mourvedre Grenache

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2010 Vintage) says
This distinguished Rhone-style blend is estate-grown at Onetangi, on Waiheke Island, and matured for a year in French oak barriques. The 2009 is fleshy, dark, rich and supple, with sweet-fruit delights and deep blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours. A muscular wine with real power and complexity, it's well worth cellaring. Still a baby, the 2010 vintage is Syrah-based (90 per cent), with minor portions of Mourvedre (6 per cent), Grenache (2 per cent), Cinsaut (1 per cent) and Viognier (1 per cent). Deeply coloured, it is very floral, sweet-fruited and supple, with dense plum and spice flavours, a hint of liquorice, and fine-grained tannins. It should develop for many years.
