Streicker Ironstone Block Old Vine Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed and aged on lees in French oak barriques. Light but bright green-straw; the sheer intensity of the flavour of the wine puts it in a category all of its own, the foundation of grapefruit flavours supported by strong minerality, in turn making the oak a lesser player.

Ray Jordan (2010 Vintage) says
Really beautiful chardonnay, this. Minerally citrus and stone fruit nuances on the nose with some light toast evident. It has richness and palate density yet there is finesse and delicacy that expresses the variety so well. Very long palate definition to a sustained finish.

WINESTATE (2010 Vintage) says
A cool climate-style with juicy, floral, lime, varietal fruit and judicious use of quality oak.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
The only thing lacking in this wine is another few years in bottle, and a few more yada yadas on the back label explaining all the usual good things that go to make high-quality chardonnay. Very much in the line of prior vintages.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
This wine and two prior vintages are style triplets, the elegant and harmonious fusion of stone fruit with subtle French oak is common to all, as is excellent length. It may be just youth, but this has the most character.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Very similar in style to the '06, equally bright in colour and youthful in flavour; here a touch of citrus enters the equation which, by rights, should have been in the '06; again, harmonious and long.

Ray Jordan (2007 Vintage) says
Made quite an impact this wine with a Blue-Gold at the Sydney international and a Gold at the Decanter awards. Deep and intense with a mealy grapefruit and crme Broulee mix on the nose. Powerful linear palate with wonderful persistence. Richly textured lavish wine of class.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Still unevolved colour, green-straw; a thoroughly elegant wine, with white peach and nectarine fruit backed by subtle French oak; very good balance to a harmonious wine.
