WHAT YOU’LL RECEIVE
2012 De Bortoli Regional Reserve Yarra Valley Chardonnay
This Chardonnay first popped up in one of our Cracka Panel tastings. We were immediately suspicious ('what is this wine?'), then excited ('ooh reserve it should be a belter') and finally pumped ('wow this is delicious'). It's a rollercoaster ride tasting at Cracka. Needless to say that after our tasting we immediately took all the cases of this De Bortoli Regional Reserve Yarra Chardonnay that the good people at De Bortoli would give us (Hi De Bortoli!) and we don't regret it for one moment. The key to this wine's appeal is that it combines richness and texture with proper acidity, the flavours in the white peach department with an edge of citrus and creamy lees/oak flavours. Crafted from De Bortoli's Dixons Creek vineyard, and out of a seriously great vintage in the Yarra Valley, this is proper Yarra Chardonnay.
2013 Blue Pyrenees Estate Red
It's not often that the wine critics all agree with each other. Which means that when a wine comes along with as many awards and high scores as this Blue Pyrenees Estate Red and its previous vintages have, you really take notice. Needless to say this is great wine. An epic wine, that absolutely everyone seems to love. Best to fill your cellar with a few cases of this superstar today!
2013 Grant Burge Corryton Park Cabernet
Wow, what an amazing rich brooding bottle of Barossa Cabernet. Worth every cent of its $40 price tag. Feels like it needs something to cut through in terms of food matching, maybe a rich savoury red meat dish, and maybe some spice as well? Whatever you choose to match it with, this will sit down for 10 years easily, but prime drinking would be between 4 years to 12 years from what we can see.
2014 Xanadu Margaret River Chardonnay
This awesome little chardy from Xanadu is amazing value! A multitude of white peach, lemon citrus, florals and buttered toast aromas flow out of the glass, whilst the palate is elegant and creamy with more stone fruit, cashew and citrusy flavours, bright and refined acidity, and a lovely talcy, crisp finish. Time to stock the cellar!
2016 Wildside Tasmanian Pinot Noir
Made by Derwent Estate, a 5-red-star ‘Outstanding’ Halliday rated winery in Tasmania's beautiful Derwent Valley, this is another wine that will easily earn its place in the Cracka Hall of Fame.
From a warm and dry vintage, it exhibits that wonderful combination of youthful ripe strawberry fruit with the grace, intensity and length that comes from mature vines and low yielding crops, all with a lovely youthful energy and vitality. As with all of the Pinots made by Derwent Estate, this has been given the royal treatment - with whole bunches in the wild, open fermentation, the wine hand-plunged and given a stint in French oak for complexity. The naked woman on the label says it all - it’s a very sexy wine; one of those more-ish styles that you simply can’t get enough of.
