Te Awa Cabernet Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here we have a dense, darkly-fruited style of merlot out of EnZed that has a bit of substance to it. Dark plums, cherries, mocha and subtle dried herbs jump out of the glass and onto the fuller-bodied palate, which is quite rich and a touch earthy, with slinky tannins, poised acidity, and a plush, fruity finish. This could stand up to a beef casserole.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour, flavour and texture should be in harmony in all wines. We seldom see it due to a lack of sensitivity of the winemaker, viticulturist or the demands of the market. Sometimes all three conspire.

Dark berry fruits, oyster shell and graphite. Silky smooth on the palate with supple tannins and a lengthy finish.

Te Awa Cabernet Merlot

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
Estate-grown in the Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay, the 2009 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (44 pet cent), Merlot (40 per cent), Cabernet Franc (14 per cent) and Malbec (2 per cent). Matured for 20 months in French oak barrels, it is dark and rich, with strong, fresh blackcurrant, plum and slight herb flavours, well-integrated oak and fine, supple tannins. Best drinking 2013+.
