Michael Cooper (2000 Vintage) says
This is typically a Hawke's Bay red of rare breed. Grown at the Lawson family's vineyard near Gimblett Road, it is made by Jenny Dobson, who was once maitre d'ehais at a well-respected Haut-Medoc cm bourgeois, Chateau Senejac. Subtle, multi-faceted and beautifully harmonious, it is more complex and savoury than most New Zealand reds. The 2000 is a blend of Merlot (85 per cent), Cabernet Sauvignon (11 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (4 per cent), matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (30 per cent new). Deeply coloured, it's a fleshy, generous wine with rich, plummy flavours, sweet-fruit characters, spicy, savoury, earthy touches adding complexity and a firm tannin grip, it's still youthful; open 2004+.

Medium to full red-purple; the aromas are slightly subdued in a savoury/gamey spectrum, but there is rather more on the palate where black fruit flavours join the more savoury earthy characters feeding through from the bouquet. The tannins are firm but suitable for the style.
