Michael Cooper (2002 Vintage) says
The memorable 2002 vintage was grown in the Gimblett Gravels district of Hawke's Bay and matured for 15 months in French oak casks (15 per cent new). Handled like Pinot Noir in the winery, with minimal racking, it is mouthfilling, generous and supple, bursting with the delights of sweet, ripe fruit. Plummy and spicy, with the restrained oak influence letting its beautifully rich fruit flavours shine, and hints of liquorice and dark chocolate, it shows excellent concentration and structure and offers delicious drinking from now onwards. A star wine.
