Telmo Rodriguez Gaba do Xil Godello

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Valdeorras is a couple of hours inland from Rías Baixas, heading East towards the province of Castile. Dozens of rivers criss-cross this hilly region, which is cool and dry. Stunted, blackened old vines eke a miserly existence.

Full-textured, as expected for Godello, but with a really great rip of ripe, spicy acid+tannin working the palate from end to end, giving drive, rather than heavy roundness. Golden-fruited, with little mineral glints.

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2009 Vintage) says
The wine is as dramatic as the place. From a single vineyard on Roman terraces in northwest Spain, it's built around carefully managed phenolic texture. Crunchy pear fruit defines a spice-accented finish.

Subdued floral nose with yeasty elements. Luscious in the mouth, with slight tropical flavours. 3-5

Neutral nose; hints of white fruit and some VA. Better palate, with crunchy texture and tasting of citrus and stone-fruit..
