Telmo Rodriguez Matallana Tempranillo

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Dark berries, curry spices and wafts of smokiness decorate the nose, whilst the palate is sweetly-fruited with a spicy edge, licks of toasty oak, a fine line of mellowing tannins, and a licoricy finish. This has a few more years to go in the cellar, or would compliment a nice hearty stew.

Winemaker's Notes

Ribera del Duero is nowadays on equal footing with Rioja as the premier Tempranillo region of Spain. It’s a very special viticultural site — an open river valley system about 700 metres above sea level. Warm by day, cool by night, facilitating fruit ripening and vine de-stressing. Great expression with good integration of acid and tannin, and lots of retained perfume results from the climate. Sandy soils add a fresh, chalky elegance to the tannins.

Tobacco, anise, gravel, blue-flowers, dense and deft. Savoury-leathery palate with immaculate fruit tannin holding fine oak close ... fine minerals, saturated blue fruit and blue-note perfume. Savoury-yet-fruited, super.
