The Black Chook Sparkling Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Sparkling Shiraz is one of the Australian wine industry’s great gifts to the world of wine and we don’t give this style enough credit. Winemaker Ben Riggs is proud of this Sparkling red that employs three- year-old Shiraz that’s been aged in oak barrels. This is a nicely balanced bubbly with a ripe, juicy palate that’s full and textured making it perfect for matching with barbecued chicken or turkey.

Winemaker's Notes

This non vintage wine sparkles to the tune of a well balanced blend; predominantly 3-5 year old Shiraz, aged in old French oak barrels showing wonderful smooth integrated fruit and a rich weighty texture across the palate. This is blended with a touch of younger vintage Shiraz bringing ripe juicy fruit characters to the finished product.

Fruit for the Sparkling Shiraz is sourced predominantly from premium grape growing regions in South Australia; namely McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek.

This Sparkling is a rich, luscious Sparkling Shiraz that is well balanced and destined to compliment pork and turkey or any occasion to celebrate!!

This has been a consistent top performer over the past few years - and the price has dropped by a few dollars. There are ripe, deep blackberry and plum flavours, silky smooth texture, full-throttle power and a finish that balances sweetness and tannins

There was a time when a whole host of sparkling reds appeared on the market but in recent years activity has slowed down. Great then to see this excellent drop crop up. NV RELEASE Yes! This is a great new introduction to the affordable sparkling red ranks. Bless its soul. It's clean, sweet, medium-bodied and fresh, its fruitiness dark and earthy. Neat price too. DRINK 2008-2010.
