Tyson Stelzer (2012 Vintage) says
There’s a particular precision and focus to the new Gathering, every bit as complex as ever in its layers of fruit and barrel ferment intrigue, yet with more crunchy grapefruit zest and lemon pith definition than before. Oak feels better contained, emphasising fine, mineral texture and magnificent line and length. One of the great Gatherings, and certainly among the longest lived.

Youthful yet complex, rich yet crisp, caressing yet challenging all at once. A complex and enticing bouquet spans fragrant granny smith apple, lily perfume, lanolin, guava, even a note of wild honey. The palate delivers a spectacular panorama, with dramatic brush strokes of gooseberry pie and burnished tones of hazelnut cream, bathed in gentle white light of lily blossom, seemingly rounded and sweet at first, yet delightfully crisp, with granny smith apple crunch on the finish. Immaculate detail is painted on a canvas of deep, fibrous texture, carrying long on the finish. Brilliant.

Ripe, round and handsomely oaked, with a sweet, lightly spicy bouquet of gooseberries, lychees and melon backed by waxy, creamy and nutty complexity plus meaty, clove-like undertones. Its generous, luscious palate marries juicy flavours of gooseberries and melon with toasty vanilla oak, finishing with a tangy, lemony acidity.

Sightly angular, but generous and well composed, this rather round and complex wine just needs time in the bottle. Scented with gooseberries, melon and lychees assertively matched with lightly smoky vanilla oak and a powerful mineral and herbal presence, it's rich, ripe and mouthfilling. Smooth and creamy, but backed by faintly awkward charry oak and jarring acidity, it settles down with creamy, biscuity complexity. It should be delicious once it smoothes out a little more.

Gathering 2009 is one of the most intellectual sauvignon semillon blends you will encounter this year. It’s at the same time challenging and engaging, with profoundly exotic allusions. But for all of its frivolity and complexity, it’s taut and tense, agile and edgy, pulling into a disciplined, focused and disarmingly honed finish, defined by monumental texture, fine-tuned minerality and earth-shaking persistence. Gathering demands trance-like focus to comprehend, so don’t drink it too fast, too cold, or too soon.

A different style to most probably a little ahead of the market. Complex and fleshy rather than fresh and simple with great texture concentration length of flavour and complexity. The richness is Australian and the complexity a nod to France.

Complex and over delivering in a style that is often fresh and simple whereas this wine has texture concentration and complexity.

Good structure, touches of chalk and slate giving the wine some authority and length to the citrus, lemon and gooseberry flavours.

Scented with passionfruit, citrus, wheatmeal and delicate spices, this lightly candied and tropical sauvignon blanc is rather a departure from the shapely and austere wines formerly associated with this label. Backed by creamy, nutty leesy characters and assertive savoury oak, it's long, tropical and smooth to finish.

Flinty, minerally, grassy style; has good length; hints of a possible barrel ferment component.

A complex flavoursome and tightly crafted but oak-enhanced blend of some class. Its pungent aromas of gooseberries, passionfruit and cassis overlie floral, mineral and lightly herbal complexity, with restrained undertones of vanilla oak. There's also a hint of oak beneath its soft and generously flavoured palate, whose vibrant fruit and mineral, baby powder-like complexity finishes with excellent length and refreshing acidity.

Light straw-green; spotlessly clean, moderately intense herb and lemon aromas lead into a lovely palate, with clean, long, lingering lemon and passionfruit flavours.

Another fine Adelaide Hills sauvignon based-wine from 2002. It's especially aromatic and herbaceous, with intense aromas of tropical fruits, gooseberries, passionfruit and lychees, backed by a smidge of sweatiness. Long and juicy, the palate presents a ripe mouthfeel of tangy and penetrative tropical fruit punctuated by lingering grapefruit flavours and citrusy acids.
