The Little Wine Company Sangiovese

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Sangiovese from the Hunter? Well we were a little sceptical too, but husband and wife team Ian and Suzanne Little, know that alternative varieties when planted in suitable parts of the region can really thrive. And thrive this does, it’s a brilliant example of the Savoury red grape from Italy that makes for a brilliant food wine from tapas plates through to past, pizza and heartier dishes. You’ll find notes of cherry and leather with complex chocolate aromas. The palate is generously fruited and has the trademark tannins of the variety.

Winemaker's Notes

Our Sangiovese is imbued with sweet cherry and leather tones and loaded with fabulous smoky chocolate and mushroom characters. The savoury tannins and complex fruit characters make this an ideal food wine. Great with any tomato based dishes.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Light colour; has clear varietal character courtesy of its red cherry and savoury/spicy counterpoints; on retasting, the length of the wine becomes apparent.

Slightly developed savoury/meaty aromas with strong smoky oak. Similar palate with nice grainy tannins. 3-5

Improbably, does well in both varietal and structural terms; savoury and spicy, but not green, and little flashes of cherry and plum.
