The Pawn Jeu de Fin Reserve Adelaide Hills Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Pawn wine company are a small winery making a big noise crafting wines using the best fruit available from the Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek. Rather than being pawns in the big wine company game, their desire is to produce hand crafted wines that are artisan rather than manufactured. This is a cool climate Shiraz that demonstrates beautiful aromatics of red berries and cracked pepper as well as captivating spices.

Winemaker's Notes

Hand crafted from small parcels of premium fruit from our Adelaide Hills vineyards the wine is intensely aromatic with a bouquet of wild red berries and black pepper along with cinnamon and plums. The palate is rich, displaying fruits such as blackberry and cherry complementing the spicy backbone of liquorice and chocolate. A hint of savouriness gives the wine an extra layer of complexity with good tight acidity and smooth velvety tannins.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Purple-crimson; intense and very complex, with black cherry, plum, licorice, multi-spice and cracked pepper providing a constantly moving hologram of flavours; half a percent less alcohol would have been even better.

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
Sourced from the Macclesfield end of the Adelaide Hills, this has ripeness within an elegant structure. Plenty of dark berries, blackberry and plum flesh mingle through an array of fresh spices. The palate has smooth tannins and elegantly contained flavour; nothing out of shape or stride, just effortless, lip-smacking cool-climate appeal.
