The Scarlet Letter Sparkling Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This bottle of shiraz bottles may not be wearing the scarlet letter 'A', but it is certainly a saucy minx. It's a rich, plush style that shows attractive smells of dark berries, plums, soft spice and chocolate on the nose that leads in to a smooth, fleshy palate, with a nice balance of sweetness softening the mouthfeel, a fine bubble, and a bright, fruity finish. These wines match brilliantly with Indian curries, or even a plum pudding.

Winemaker's Notes

This first release of the NV Scarlet Letter is a blend of 4 vintages, from 2007 to 2010 which provides some beautiful layers to the wine. The wine initially jumps out of the glass with dark cherry fruit, lavender and violet floral characters and hints of characteristic Padthaway spearmint.

The palate is powerful and rich but with lovely softness, showing ripe berry fruit balanced with chocolate and toasted spice characters; it has a fine bead and a persistence of fruit.

Lovely purple/red wine with intense blackberry fruit, some nice fine tannins and aniseed/spice characters. Rich and powerful in the mouth.
