Thompson Estate Locum Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Thompson Estate is another one of those high achieving Margaret River wineries you don’t hear enough about. As a James Halliday five star rated winery, Thompson does not need to blow it’s own trumpet as the wines speak for themselves. This aromatic white is just waiting to be served with a pile of prawns and mayonnaise and show you how crisp and balanced it is. Expect citrus and herbaceous notes and plenty of texture aided by crunchy acids.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: The colour is pale straw with green hues.

Nose: Clean and fresh, with vibrant aromas of nectarine, passionfruit and gooseberry.

Palate: The palate is light-medium bodied, bursting with fresh fruit and balanced with a zippy mineral acid structure. The Sauvignon Blanc provides vibrancy and fruit sweetness, whereas the Semillon component adds complexity and mouth feel.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Pale quartz green; an intense bouquet, and even more intense palate, with citrussy acidity driving through its length, the flavours ranging from green capsicum and snow pea through to grapefruit pith and lingering citrus flavours. Outstanding value.

Light straw-green; with a bit of teasing, some zesty lemon and passionfruit aromas emerge, and build further on the well-balanced and long palate.

Ray Jordan (2009 Vintage) says
Lively and punchy fruit driven blend with dominant tropical aromas and flavours and a fleshy flavoursome palate. Has a delightful airy lift on the finish with a fine acid.

Ray Jordan (2008 Vintage) says
The more dominant semillon in this blend is evident from the first sniff. A lot more complex and layered with a rich textural feel in the mouth. Palate is sustained and long. Terrific value for a wine of this quality.
