Thorn-Clarke Sandpiper Chardonnay

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Sandpiper range from Thorn-Clarke have to be some of the best value wines on the planet! Even though Thorn-Clarke are based in the Barossa Valley, they have journeyed to the cooler-climate of the Eden Valley for this lightly-oaked chardy. Aromas of peaches, lemons and a touch of toast rise from the glass, whilst the palate is medium-bodied, dry and fruity, with tropical and citrus flavours, and a brisk lemony finish. Enjoy chilled down with your mates, or with chicken kiev.

Winemaker's Notes

The wine is a light straw colour. The nose displays some complexity with citrus and stone fruits complimented by nutty barrel characters. This is a medium weight wine with peach and citrus characters balanced nicely with good acidity. The wine finishes with clean lemon like acidity.

WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Interesting nose; smells smoky with characters such as clotted cream, yeast and preserved lemons. Complex, creamy palate with nice oak presence and vibrancy. 3-5

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
Tropical and exotic fruits here in this inexpensive single-vineyard Barossa chardonnay; really ripe and rich, straightforward primary wine. The palate is simple and heads into the tropical fruit spectrum, straight edges and finishes sweetish but clean.

Lifted, oaky nose - a touch toasty. Lean palate with good mid-sweetness. Nice steely notes.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
A powerful wine, with nectarine, ripe apple and a touch of citrus; subliminal French oak.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Bright green-yellow; light- to medium-bodied; fresh melon and nectarine fruit-driven style; just a touch of oak; good length. Curious role reversal with Riesling.
