Thorn-Clarke Terra Barossa Shiraz Cabernet

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

With a trophy for 'Best red under $20' at the 2012 Great Australian Red wine show for the previous vintage - and some other medals to match - this Barossan wine comes to us with a solid resume. Luckily it tastes alright too, showing plenty of fruit without looking too sweet or flabby, the tannins dry and very long indeed.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: The colour is a deep inky purple.

Nose: The nose is a complex mixture of lifted berry fruit, pencil shavings/chocolate oak and ripe plums, with a floral lift from the Petit Verdot component.

Palate: The palate is medium to full bodied. Due to the complexity of the blend, the palate starts with sweet plums and spice and then turns to blackcurrants and liquorice with dark chocolate interwoven throughout the mouth. Soft and sweet tannins then follow on with some great sweet fruit.

Alcohol: 14.8%

Grape Variety: Shiraz 70%, Cabernet Sauvignon 21%, Petit Verdot 9%.

Thorn-Clarke Terra Barossa Shiraz Cabernet

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2010 Vintage) says
Thorne-Clarke not only took the top trophy in The Great Australian Red last year, it also secured the trophy for The Best Wine Under $20 with its great value Terra Barossa blend. It sings of the great 2010 vintage in succulent blackcurrants, mulberries, plums and black cherries, with subtle complexity of game, supported by firm, fine tannins that promise a decade in the cellar.
