James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
The bright colour is halfway between Johnno's and Old Patch, the fragrant bouquet has a mix of dark cherry, plum and a hint of spice, and the vibrant, medium-bodied palate has remarkable texture and structure given its alcohol; from 130-year-old vines, open-fermented and matured in part new, part used large-format French oak. A brilliant trifecta.

Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
This is a veritable treasure of a wine that shows plenty of the depth and soul that you garner with old vines. It's no blockbuster but has a profound, essence-like array of dark cherry and ripe plum, a sheen of spice, fine and even tannins and terrific overall balance. The oak's beautifully judged here.

Planted by great-great-grandfather Tyrrell in 1879 situated on the drive into the winery this is living history. The year 06 shows rich berry fruit with raspberry and liquorice and very drying fine tannins with a very long red fruit finish lasting over 45 seconds. The 09 is refined with delicacy freshness and aromas of crystallised red-berry fruit. Only just medium body with finesse in the very fine tannins and great delicacy of berry fruits and acidity and length of flavour.

Bright purple hue; blueberry, violets and ironstone bouquet; thickly textured with a vibrant core of blue and red fruit, underpinned by seamlessly integrated oak; fine tannin and slightly plummy fruit persist on the finish.

This is a cellar-door only wine, due for release in mid-2008. Get onto Tyrrell's and see if you can get yourself some - it's very limited, and very good. 2007 RELEASE This is a single-vineyard wine to die for. The 2007 is a particularly strong version of it too. It's still only medium weight, but the flavours are brilliant. Violets, boysenberry, French-polished cedar, rich, ripe plums and red earth. If I could buy the whole production, I would. I like it that much, DRINK 2009-2025.

This is a cellar-door-only wine, and by the time this book is released it may well all be sold out - for which we apologise. It's a classic in the making, a single-vineyard wine to die for. This is a particularly strong version. It's still only medium- | Seal weight (you'd almost call it light), but the array of flavours is brilliant. Violets, boysenberry, French-polished cedar, rich, ripe plums and red earth. Regional complexity at its best.

Nick Stock (2006 Vintage) says
These 127-year-old vines have produced some incredible wines over the years. Here they are delivered in ultra-traditional Hunter shiraz style, with gently earthy dried red berry fruits amid light plum, cherry and chocolate. The palate arrives cloaked in super-fine tannins, really elegant and precise; it has deep dark cherry/ berry flavour and attractive freshness. Soulful rather than heroic

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Light, brilliantly clear colour; light-bodied and fresh; predominantly red fruits; has not been tricked up in any way; only understood in context of wines such as the 1872 Craiglee Hermitage at even lower alcohol; 127-year-old vines.

Bright cherry fruit; a supple and elegant structure, with an attractive and silky, almost light-bodied, palate, which has deceptive length. From vines well over 100 years old
