Vallado 20 Year Old Tawny Port (500ml)

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Now we enter serious tawny territory with this offering from Vallado. Smells of coffee, Xmas cake and orange rind rise from the glass, whilst the palate is quite elegant in the context of port, with more nutty and dried fruit flavours, excellent balance of sweetness and acidity, and a lush, long finish. Outstanding stuff!

Winemaker's Notes

Our focus at present is on ‘new wave’ Vintage Ports. Newness in respect of the Douro Boys’ attachment to the single quinta concept, but stylistically, too: these VPs drink exceptionally well as young wines. As a rule of thumb, they are great drinks until 5 years’ age. Then they need to cellar for 10+ years. Easy! They are extraordinarily good value.

Headed by the 6th generation of the Ferreira family (who have continuously owned the property), Vallado has in the past decade undergone massive modernization—shifting from grower to winery estate producer.

Brandied nuts, ripe, exotic timber and roasted almond. Extraordinarily palate; wonderful aged spirit/oak interplay. Clean drying grip of tannin frames spice-honey-clove elegance in the back; outrageously long finish.
