James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Pale straw, vibrant hue; a layered bouquet of straw, tropical fruits and fresh-crushed nettle aromas; the palate is understated and fine-boned, with delicacy a feature; ultimately finely detailed, harmonious and surprisingly long on the finish; excellent winemaking on display.
Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition 2013
Jeremy Oliver (2012 Vintage) says
A sophisticated, complex and finely textured blend whose dusty, herbal fragrance of passionfruit, gooseberries, tropical fruits and dried flowers reveals a hint of grassiness. It?s supple but luscious, with a long, vibrant presence of pristine melon-like fruit backed by a fine chalkiness and creaminess, finishing brisk, finely balanced and lemony.
The Australian Wine Annual 2014 Edition 2014
James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
An estate-grown blend, part-fermented in new French oak barriques, recent prior vintages having enjoyed outstanding show success. It not only has a greater degree of dazzling fruit flavours, but also the attention to detail and uncompromising attitude to quality that Virginia Willcock brings to her winemaking, from Heytesbury down to this wine. Gold medal Perth Wine Show ’11.
Halliday's Top 100 Aussie Wines 2011 2011
Tyson Stelzer (2011 Vintage) says
The way this wine’s zippy energy and vibrant acidity lifts its waves of complexity and flavour is nothing less than captivating. A little touch of oak multiplies its complexity in hazelnut cream, lifting the ginger, lantana and nashi pear of its fruit. A tightly defined cut of lime juice acidity flows through a palate of seamless texture and outstanding length. It’s vibrant and approachable, with the endurance to live.
Wine Taste - Edition 52 2012
Jeremy Oliver (2011 Vintage) says
Another slightly herbal, funky and complex release by Virginia Willcock's team that backs its creamy, smoky fragrance of punchy peach, melon and tropical fruit with hints of oyster shell and iodine. Tightly underpinned by a fine, dusty texture, it's genuinely long, fine and elegant. It reveals a pleasing balance between fruit, oak and a gentle, refreshing acidity before finishing quite briny and savoury.
The Australian Wine Annual 2013 2012
Ray Jordan (2011 Vintage) says
This is just so good. Captures the fruit power and intensity perfectly then throws in some oak influence from the partial barrel fermentation. It adds up to a wine that delivers more than the sum of the parts. Lemon and racy yet with richer texture all held on a tight rein to the long finish.
WA Wine Guide 2013 2012
James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Bright straw-green; the portion of barrel fermentation in new French oak pays big dividends, adding complexity to both the bouquet and palate; at one end is intense citrus and passionfruit, at the other end tropical and nutty nuances; the mouthfeel is very good, the length and finish likewise. Trophies Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney Wine Shows '11.
Australian Wine Companion 2012 2011
Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
Top class, with a complex, alluring bouquet whose charmingly tropical, peachy and gooseberry-like aromas are backed by floral and herbal nuances plus smoky barrel ferment notes and hints of charcuterie meats, snerbet and mineral. It's round and unctuous, with a long, mouthfilling presence of fruit underpinned by a fine chalkiness. Wrapped in lemony acids, it finishes with a lick of slate. Just the sort of thing that Margaret River does best, but could do with more of.
The Australian Wine Annual 2012
Nick Stock (2010 Vintage) says
Vasse Felix has nailed this style to the wall with convincing and widely recognised success. Plenty of citrus and tropcial fruits met with just the right amount of gentle oak enhancement. Superior texture and complexity with all the freshness and verve you're after - and then some!
The Good Wine Guide 2012
Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
This is fresh as they come, showing plenty of regional leaf and herb aromas, citrus and lemongrass - subtly evident barrel fermentation complexity adds nutty nuances. The palate has bright acid crunch and a smooth top coat of texture, again due to the oak influence. Lemon barley flavour throughout.
The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010 2009
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Bright light green-straw; a beautifully focused and balanced blend, with tropical fruit offset by intense citrus acidity; the small proportion of barrel ferment in French oak is almost invisible. Gold medal Sydney Wine Show '10.
Australian Wine Companion 2011 2010
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Totally delicious, fruit-driven wine exploding with tropical fruit, which, however, doesn't go over the top, for the palate is svelte and streamlined. Gold WA Wine Show '08.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Fresh cut grass aromas, with abundant citrus fruits on the palate, and a touch of nettle on the finish; good concentration
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Very complex wine with wild yeast and barrel ferment inputs; tropical passionfruit flavours, long and intense; French oak again plays a deliberately low-key role. Great finish.
