The first 1996 vintage is a striking, delicious mouthful of piercing, ripely herbaceous flavour, high alcohol (13-5 per cent) and tangy acidity. Grown in two Awatere Valley vineyards, it was predominantly tank-fermented, but 5 per cent was barrel-fermented and matured on its light yeast lees. Pale and pungently aromatic, it is a very high impact style, yet refined, with the subtle oak adding richness and a long, intense finish.
