Veuve Clicquot Vintage Rose

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here we have a Rose champagne with a big personality that would be great with some poached salmon. Smells of ripe red berries and cherries waft out of the glass, together with lots of buttered toast and soft spices. The palate is fulsome and silky, with sweet red berry flavours, a touch of smoky savouriness, and a nice cleansing cut of citrusy acidity on the finish.

Winemaker's Notes

The Vintage Rose 2004 offers a deep pink colour with highlights of copper and delicate, light effervescence. The nose, extremely elegant, at first reveals flavours of ripe red fruits that burst on the tongue, before gradually giving way to violets, lilacs and light "pastry" notes. A discreet touch of ground coffee can also be distinguished. The attack is forthright and energetic.

This generous wine offers an astonishingly long and subtle finish. It is extremely complex and is distinguished by great freshness. On the palate, strong notes of fruit recall the refined nose. The finish is surprising in its persistence.

Reviews and Accolades

"Attractive copper colour, bright apricot tart and clafoutis notes on the nose, with an extremely ripe and juicy fruit on the palate giving it a full body. Dive in!"

"Soft and creamy, the fine texture carries flavours of black current and wild strawberry, with hints of financier, citrus zest and smoky mineral. Very appealing for its overall finesse and finely tuned, mouthwatering acidity. Drink now through 2014."

Tyson Stelzer (2004 Vintage) says
Clicquot's vintage wines are way ahead of its NVs this year. Fifteen percent Grand Cru pinot noir provides a pretty salmon hue and restrained flavours of spicy red cherries, raspberries, red liquorice and toast.

Nick Stock (2004 Vintage) says
A bold and richly fruited Vintage rose that has plenty of ripe red-berry fruits and woody spices, some dark toasty complexity, and almost earthy depth. The palate's fleshy and juicy; it really sweeps wide and delivers rich, quite luscious flavours that roll through soft and gently sweet at the finish

Plenty of wine here. The vintage rosé is a savoury red fruit affair, really punchy and direct with spicy fruit aromas and gentle vanillin spices too. The palate has good intensity and shape, really fresh and punchy. This all adds up to terrific pink fizz!
