This aptly named wine actually does have hints of tobacco and herbs on the nose, and these fragrances cunningly overlay an impressive palate with a fresh black plum and cherry fruit core. This is a cool Cabernet style from a winery on the road to the snowfields. A beautiful wine from a beautiful place.

Very green, leafy cabernet with a prominent backbone of tannins, nice cigar box oak and attractive Vegemite savouriness. Good example of variety.

This comes from the Victorian Alps winery, has aromatic coconutty oak, is supple, round and smooth with concentrated dark berry fruit and heaps of oak and tannin. It's a bold, robust style that will appeal to many (but not all).

Tobacco Road is a label of the Victorian Alps winery and this is much better than the 2004 that we reviewed last year. It is sourced from Coonawarra and doesn't have the dominant American oak of the 2004. It's full-bodied, densely flavoured, powerful and well-structured, with silky texture.
