Michael Cooper (1996 Vintage) says
Vidal's lower-tier wine is sharply priced and consistently enjoyable. The '95 was a great buy - a full, flavorsome wine with fresh, ripe fruit against a backdrop of toasty oak. Balanced for current consumption, the 1996 vintage is a blend of Gisborne and Hawke's Bay grapes, oak-aged tor four months. It's very fresh and crisp, with good depth of apple/lemon flavours and a touch of wood. In a blind tasting, it comes across as almost identical to its Hawke's Bay stablemate (below).
