Vidal Reserve Hawke's Bay Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
(Note: from the 2010 vintage, this label will be replaced by the new Legacy Series Chardonnay.) At its best, this has been one of Hawke's Bay's finest Chardonnays, with a string of top wines stretching back to the mid-1980s. The 2009 vintage was hand-picked, mostly in the Gimblett Gravels but also at Maraekakaho and Ohiti, and fermented, entirely with indigenous yeasts, in French oak barriques (45 per cent new). It's a beautifully rich and complex wine, highly refined, with deep, ripe stone-fruit flavours, a slightly creamy texture, and excellent harmony and length.

Medium green-yellow; attractive dusty/spicy oak is woven through melon fruit on the bouquet. The palate has good flavour and length, with citrus and nectarine fruit following through the mid-palate to finish.
