Michael Cooper (1997 Vintage) says
A fruit-uppermost style, with a hint of oak adding depth, but essentially a fragrant, very ripe and punchy 1996 vintage is a blend of Rapaura and Awatere Valley fruit, with a "small proportion" of oak aging. It's a lovely, rich wine, deep, powerful (13-5 per cent alcohol), zingy and explosively flavoured, with tropical fruit and herbaceous characters, great body and concentration. The '97 is also highly impressive, with fresh, intense, limey aromas, mouthfilling body, lively, ripe melon/capsicum flavours and a powerful finish. Exceptional value.
