Villa Maria Private Bin Syrah
This wine, made with fruit from Hawkes Bay shows how far New Zealand has come with Syrah or Shiraz as we affectionately know it. It’s the soil and climate of the region that lends the wines such distinctive flavour profiles. It’s loaded with red fruits, florals and peppery spice with a fleshy, soft palate. Nicely balanced with soft tannin and natural acid, it goes hand in hand with food.
The fruit for this wine was sourced from several sites within Hawkes Bay. A large contribution come from the Joseph Soler Vineyard, which is planted on the boundary of the Gimblett Gravels wine growing region and comprises of free draining soils ideal for the production of premium red wines. Another portion comes from within the renowned Gimblett Gravels. Here, low yields and naturally devigourated vines are encouraged, with the resulting fruit characterised by deep colours and intense flavours.
