Michael Cooper (2002 Vintage) says
Launched from the 2002 vintage this superb wine effectively replaces the lush, multiple award-winning Villa Maria Barrique Fermented Chardonnay, last produced in 2000 and usually (but not always) made from Gisborne grapes. Fermented and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (70 per cent new), it's a highly fragrant wine with beautifully fresh and vibrant, concentrated tropicaI-fruit flavours and a seductively smooth finish. Mealy and finely oaked, with a tight, complex palate showing very good delicacy and length, it should offer great drinking during 2004-05.
