Waipara Springs Chardonnay

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

You have to envy those kiwi’s not only do they have the All Blacks when it comes to Rugby but they also have some of the most impressive regions in the world to make world class wines. Waipara Valley is one such place and the winemakers at Waipara Springs have imparted some of the beauty of the region into this stunning Chardonnay. A wine that is rich in minerals, flavours of fig and roasted nuts from the oak influence. Fine acids and a creamy texture suggest this would enhance a roast chicken.

Winemaker's Notes

Made to show the limestone rich soils that it is derived from, this wine is crisp, fresh and has great minerality. It shows complex aromas of brioche, fig and toasted almonds. The palate has fine acidity, which is supported by great phenolic structure. This is a food friendly wine

Food: Match with chicken or vegetable pasta dishes.

James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says
Medium yellow-green; the bouquet shows strong nutty barrel-ferment/cashew aromas which are, however, quite stylish. An elegant wine in the mouth, albeit with the flavours all secondary, and with relatively little primary fruit still evident.
