Chardonnays made from the Mendoza clone seem to be all the rage with winemakers these days, and this one from Waipara Springs is from some of the oldest Mendoza vines in NZ. This bottle of 2006 has been matured for your convenience, so it is ready to rock and roll. Bready and nutty aromas decorate the nose along with some preserved stone fruits and lemon rind. The palate is quite lush and sumptuous with a creamy mouthfeel, toasty flavours and a smooth finish. Try it with some roast chicken.

Winemaker's Notes

Twenty eight-year old un-grafted Mendoza clone Chardonnay vines have produced a wine of intensely concentrated flavours and aromas. Un-fined juice with full solids underwent a ‘wild fermentation’ in French oak barriques to create a wine of structure and complexity.

This wine has been crafted from ungrafted 28 year old Mendoza vines grown on limestone rich soils. It is a complex wine showing subtle aromas of toasted almond and brioche. The palate is rich and beautifully balanced with great minerality, which is built around the ripe phenolic structure of this wine. This wine will reward patient cellaring.

Food: Match with chicken or vegetable pasta dishes.
