Expert Reviews

Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
Spicy, lightly gamey and meaty aromas of red plums and berries reveal undertones of cloves and cinnamon, with nuances of leather and nutmeg. Medium to full in weight, its fruit slowly opens up, delivering a forward, leathery and spicy shiraz accompanied by sweet, smoky vanilla oak it finishes savoury and cedary, with herbal undertones.

Jeremy Oliver (2001 Vintage) says
Light, earthy and under-ripe red lacking its customary weight and richness. Its oaky palate finishes thin and green-edged.

James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; ripe dark plum/dried prune aromas with attractive oak and undertones of sweet leather on the bouquet are followed by rich, ripe dark berry fruits on the fore-palate, then gently savoury tannins to close. Good structure.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the bouquet has a mix of cherry and plum spun through more obvious savoury/earthy/spicy aromas. The palate is in typical savoury Hunter mode, which does have length and intensity, and creeps up on you, with the plum fruit coming through on a long finish
Australian Wine Companion 2001 2001
James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; a spotlessly clean bouquet of medium intensity, with cherry, vanilla and plum aromas leads into a wine which is ever so slightly on the oaky side, but has nice flavour and balance, with hints of spice, black cherry and plum.
