The Blue Ridge label is reserved for the top wines from the small West Brook winery in West Auckland. The characterful, attractive 1997 vintage is a blend of 80 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon and 20 per cent Merlot, grown at Henderson. The colour is full; the palate mouthfilling, with smooth, ripe flavours of cassis, plums and spice, some complexity and moderate tannins. The 1998, tasted as a barrel sample, also looked good, with plenty of warm, earthy, spicy.

The Blue Ridge label is reserved for the top wines from the small West Brook winery in Henderson. The dark, tannic 1994 vintage is an estate-grown blend of 85 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon and 15 per cent Merlot, French oak-aged for 15 months. It's a rather hard, extractive style, but also displays ripe fruit characters with some intensity. The '95 includes 15 per cent Merlot and was matured in seasoned French oak barrels for 15 months. It's a middleweight style, not highly complex but aging gracefully, with satisfying depth of red berry/plum flavours and a slightly peppery, firm finish.
