Wild Oats Cabernet Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Oatleys are clever characters when it comes to wine, they know what people want and frequently deliver superbly made wines at both the premium and bargain end. The Wild Oats range is about wines that seriously over-deliver on price and this Cabernet Merlot comes from the family vineyards in Mudgee. This superb blend shows how well the plumpness of Merlot works harmoniously with the structure of Cabernet showing blackcurrant and herbal characters. This is a perfect accompaniment for lamb back straps on the barbecue.

Winemaker's Notes

The aim with this blend was to produce a wine with both structure and personality. Whilst matured in predominantly French oak, the wood character does not dominate, allowing the cabernet’s blackcurrant and mulberry fruit to stand to the fore. Will age if you wish but drinks very well right now.

A big, complex, cigar box style. Some porty/jammy characters and nice freshness in the mouth. Needs more time.
