Willow Creek Pinot Gris

Cracka Value Rating

Cracka Review

It's a textural sort of Pinot Gris this one, a wine made richer and fleshier thanks to a little clever winemaking work. The net result is much more fun than your usual boring Pinot Gris with an extra layer of richness and joy. Tasty stuff.

Winemaker's Notes

This is the fifth vintage of Pinot Gris harvested from the Willow Creek Vineyard, and was hand harvested in early March when the fruit had developed ripe pear flavours. The small crop was whole bunch pressed, clarified overnight, then the juice transferred to old barrels for fermentation. The small amount of solids still in the juice was included to add some textural complexity to the wine. Once dry the wine was prepared for bottling without further delay to maximise the fresh fruit characters evident.

Appearance: Pale gold.

Nose: Subtle and complex bouquet of honey, biscotti and pear drops.

Palate: A rich and weighty palate, reflecting the nose with pear and honey flavours and more savoury grilled nut flavours to finish. The richness and power of the palate is well-balanced with some textural grip on the finish.

Nick Stock (2012 Vintage) says
A lovely, honeyed nose here with banana and pear fruits, some baked apple, a little musk and spice too, really charming nougat and true gris-like character. The palate has plenty of texture and nicely worked buttered pancake and banana flavour, some creamy leesy notes and neat all-round balance.
