Wyndham Estate Bin 555 Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Bin wines from Wyndham Estate have always been a value buyers delight. They are highly slurpable and rarely disappoint at the price, so you can’t go wrong! This shiraz shows lots of choc-coated plums, pepper spice and mocha on the nose, meanwhile the palate is rich and spicy, with fleshy plum flavours, gentle tannins, and a smooth, juicy finish. The perfect burger wine.

Nose: Spicy plum, black pepper, cloves and chocolate aromas supported by subtle vanillin oak.

Palate: Generous plum and dark cherry fruits with spicy notes. Fine savoury tannins and subtle vanillan oak compliment the fruit. Palate richness with balance and flavour persistence enhance the tasting experience.

Food: The perfect accompaniment to beef and lamb dishes.

Wyndham Estate Bin 555 Shiraz

Expert Reviews

Jeremy Oliver (2011 Vintage) says
Very reserved, polished and faintly herbal, with a light aroma of berries, dark plums and restrained chocolatey oak backed by a hint of black tea. Its dusty, lightly oaked palate of moderately intense small black and red berry flavours is supported by a fine, chalky spine, finishing with softness and length.

Good crimson-purple hue and clarity; has plenty of red and black fruits, a dash of chocolate, and mocha on the finish.

Predominantly sourced from Langhorne Creek, Padthaway and the Barossa Valley. Its texture, structure and balance are very good considering its price; black cherry, plum and some spice flavours all come together well.

Bright hue; fruit and mocha oak on the bouquet come through well on the medium-bodied palate, which has surprising structure, length, fruit, oak and tannins very well balanced.

Jeremy Oliver (2008 Vintage) says
Sumptuous, succulent, smooth and silky, this generous and genuinely structured shiraz has a sweet, ripe bouquet of blackberries, plums and fresh cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak lifted by a fresh spiciness and a hint of coconut. Backed by meaty, earthy complexity, finely integrated oak and firmish, fine tannin, its plush, mouthfilling expression of blackberries and plums finishes pleasingly long and almost savoury.

There's a heap of enjoyment to be had here. It's full of sweet-fruit flavour and while it's not heavy or dense, it fills the mouth nicely. Perfectly suited to mid-week drinking. Cherries, strawberries, eucalypt and musk. Spot-on.

A great little quaff, with just a hint of rawness at the finish. Musky, spicy and peppery aromas of sweet black and red berries, dark plums and chocolate/vanilla oak reveal a faint meatiness, while its long, complete and fine-grained palate neatly marries ripe fruit, cedary oak and grippy, finegrained tannins, it finishes with pleasing length and lingering suggestions of mint and menthol.

Medium-bodied; has attractive black fruits, with spice and some touches of charry oak; shortens fractionally on the finish

Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
A soft, smooth and generous early-drinking little quaff of a shiraz with a slightly meaty, peppery expression of dark berries, plums and restrained vanilla/chocolate oak. Round and juicy, ripe and dark-fruited, it reveals a little currant-like shrivelled fruit influence, and despite some soft acids is breaking up a fraction early.

Quite fragrant sweet fruits on the bouquet; a similar palate, the seductive touch of sweetness on the finish will please some and displease others. Won a gold medal at the Cairns Wine Show, which has been a happy hunting ground for some pot hunters

Medium to full in weight, with vibrant flavours of blackcurrant, raspberries, blackberries and sweet but slightly sawdusty vanilla/coconut oak framed by supple tannin at his lightly peppery young shiraz reveals a hint of dried herb and earthiness before finishing with fresh acids.

Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
A balanced and vibrant young shiraz whose spicy, peppery fragrance of red berries, plums cassis, cloves and cinnamon overlies smoky nuances of vanilla oak. Its fresh and lively, fine and supple with a pleasing length of juicy berry fruit and well handled oak.

Jeremy Oliver (2002 Vintage) says
Dull, earthy and leathery aromas of red berries, plums and currants are backed by rather stressed undertones of currants, prunes and treacle. Its meaty and green-edged palate lacks fruit sweetness and relies excessively on us sweet vanilla and mocha/chocolate oak. It finishes thin and stewy.

Jeremy Oliver (2001 Vintage) says
Good honest red with a spicy and lightly herbal aroma of raspberries, cherries and vanilla/chocolate oak before a slightly jammy but smooth and easy-drinking palate. Its lively berry flavours, creamy oak, spicy cinnamon notes and earthy undertones finish with brightness and freshness.
